Can a blood test establish perimenopause?

Not alone. The assessment is made clinically, from your cycle history, symptoms and lab values together. From around 45 onwards, age and symptom pattern are more informative than any single hormone value, and the test then mainly serves to rule out other causes such as the thyroid, prolactin or the androgens. Under 45, the hormone measurement carries considerably more diagnostic weight. Because the values fluctuate strongly in this phase, specialist interpretation matters more here than with any of our other hormone tests.
